Ethics Policy

The Place Within CE holds its programs to the highest ethical and legal standards for the profession of Marriage and Family Therapy. We are inclusive of all protected classes. In addition, we reject the endorsement of any theory or modality that would jeopardize the fair and inclusive treatment of any individual, group, or creed. We refer to the Americans with Disabilities Act, California Board of Behavioral Sciences ethical guidelines as well as California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT) and other professional and advocacy organizations that may offer us guidance in these matters.

It is our practice to survey our program advisory board for content and program interest. We then have a vetting process for potential speakers and presenters that includes, but is not limited to: researching a sampling of that person?s publications, interviewing candidates for degree(s) acquired and experience, seek and follow up on references given, and review content to be presented.

Grievance Policy

The Place Within CE has been serving the counseling and mental health needs of Monrovia and the San Gabriel Valley for more than 25 years. Founded in 1988 by licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, we serve our community in two significant ways:
  1. We offer high quality, affordable individual and family counseling to the diverse members of our geographical area.
  2. As a Marriage and Family Therapist training organization, we recruit and mentor a racially and ethnically varied group of talented counselors, offering them a rich program of traditional and complimentary theories, concepts, values, practices, and techniques.

At The Place Within CE we strive to provide compassionate and ethical services. We also aim to provide relevant, engaging, and enhancing educational experiences to our staff, partners, and professional community. We strive to do this with integrity and promotion of sound practice. We take pride in being able to enhance the practice of Marriage and Family Therapy through training and professional development.

As we are committed to a strong and supportive community of therapists, we would like to continue to offer our programming to our agency ?graduates? who go on to be licensed MFTs. We believe that trainings which offer the opportunity for trainees, interns, and licensed clinicians to learn together provide a richer learning experience. We hope to enrich our training program with more opportunities and incentives for licensed clinicians to join us.

We strive to be responsible, ethical, and professional in our programs and services. In the unforeseen event that a client or participant finds we have not met these goals, a complaint may be submitted to address this event. This may be done on program evaluations, by contacting the Executive Director, or through the Board of Directors. Complaints will be addressed within 7-10 business days with a response, action or a plan of action.

If the grievance is more severe and action from the Board of Directors is indicated by either the client/ participant, or from recommendation of a board member or staff member, a formal written grievance may be submitted to the Board of Directors of The Place Within CE and mailed to 211 S. Primrose Ave, Monrovia, CA 91016. This grievance will be reviewed by an impartial, ad-hoc grievance committee who will investigate the complaint and provide recommendations to the Board of Directors. The Board will then make decisions addressing the complaint. All records of the meetings, recommendations and decisions regarding the grievance shall be kept on file with the Secretary of The Place Within CE for a minimum of 5 years.

Refund requests will be handled in alignment with our Refund and Cancellation Policy.

A statement of this policy shall be posted on the agency website with the following statement: If you have questions or concerns contact the Executive Director at: NatashaMorisawa@ThePlaceWithin.org.
